The Game I Like Most/ My Favourite Game

Sports and games are indispensable parts of our life. They keep us healthy and fit, and they are equally good for our physical as well as mental health. Games give us energy, strength, and joy. There are several kinds of games — some are indoor games that can be played inside the house, while others are outdoor games that are played in open grounds. Indoor games include chess, carrom, and ludo, while outdoor games include football, hockey, and cricket. These outdoor games involve a lot of physical activity and teamwork.

Among all the games, I like cricket the most. Cricket is not originally a game of our own; it is a foreign game. Yet, it has become one of the most popular sports in the world. It is loved equally in both developed and developing countries. Even small children in remote villages can be seen playing cricket with great enthusiasm.

Whenever there is a big cricket event, the whole country seems to be in the grip of “cricket fever.” During the cricket season, absenteeism in schools, colleges, and offices becomes very common. Many people even take leave from work to enjoy watching cricket matches.

Cricket is played with a bat and a ball on an open ground between two teams. Each team consists of eleven players. The game is played on a rectangular 22-yard-long pitch. One team bats and tries to score as many runs as possible, while the other team bowls and fields, attempting to dismiss the batsmen and limit the number of runs scored.

In professional cricket, the duration of a match varies. One Day Internationals (ODIs) are played for 50 overs per side, while Test matches are played over five days. The laws of cricket are governed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), with additional playing conditions for Test and One Day International matches.

Cricket teaches players the values of discipline, cooperation, and teamwork. It also provides an opportunity to earn fame and wealth. The team that wins any major event is rewarded with huge prizes, and the players often become millionaires overnight. They are treated as heroes and role models, especially by the youth.

Due to the immense popularity of the game, big companies sponsor cricket events, and tickets are sold at high prices. Stadiums are packed with cheering spectators, and players are rewarded with gifts for every six and four they hit. The excitement of cricket can be felt in the thunderous applause of the audience. Even the rights to broadcast and commentate on cricket matches involve a large amount of money.

Although cricket is often considered a costly professional sport, it can also be played as a simple and inexpensive game. It requires only a bat and a ball, and many people can play with just these few items. Today, cricket has also become a promising career option for talented youth. Moreover, the game promotes love, friendship, and cooperation among different nations, bringing them closer together through sportsmanship.

Cricket is my favorite game because it gives me energy, strength, and inspiration. It teaches discipline, teamwork, and patience. Above all, it brings happiness and unity among people. For all these reasons, I like cricket the most.
